Miami Heat Sign Chris 'Birdman' Andersen
The Heat signed Andersen to just a ten-day contract, but I think they will end up keeping him the remainder of the season. Miami has been getting killed on the boards as they are 29th in the league in rebounding. They also do not have a capable shot-blocker, which happens to be Birdman's speciality. He's averaged 1.6 blocks and 5.2 rebounds per game in under 18 minutes, much better than last year's championship center Joel Anthony who's averaged 1.3 blocks and 3.3 rebounds in 17.8 minutes. Andersen made a name for himself as a respectable defender in the league before slowly falling out of George Karl's rotation with the Denver Nuggets. They used their amnesty clause on him and he was recently a suspect in a child-porn investigation but has since been cleared. This obviously deterred teams from signing him or even looking at him, but the Heat are in such need for a big man that they even signed Eddy Curry last season, and Birdman has more than proved himself as an NBA player. His history will always follow him and hurt his chances of staying in the league, but if the Heat give him a shot he might actually again prove himself for big minutes. They are certainly desperate enough and I think we'll see Birdman in black and red come playoff time.
