Trade Rumors: Gay or Randolph
With the NBA trade deadline approaching, trade talk is starting to heat up. Two faces that aren't new to being on the rumor mill are Rudy Gay and Zach Randolph. Gay's name seems to pop up this time every year in the last few seasons while Randolph hopped around teams until settling with Memphis a couple years ago. Though I don't think the Grizzlies should trade either of the two and instead let this core of Gay-Randolph-Gasol continue to build chemistry and maybe bait Mike Conley for something better at the point. The Grizz wouldn't be in this position if they chose Kyle Lowry over Conley a few years ago but that's for a different story. Randolph has been superb whenever he is on the court and is a rebounding machine. He gives the Grizzlies a low post scorer to go to when they need to slow the game down and he also happens to be best friends with front court mate Marc Gasol, who should be untouchable. If I had to pick one of the two, I would pick Gay because there are more capable starting swing players than strong power forwards like Z-Bo, which a Western Conference team needs to compete with the Thunder, Lakers, Clippers, and Spurs. Gay has played well, but perhaps a Gay-Conley trade could return a perennial all-star guard to get them to the next level. I think management really believes in Conley though, and will probably look to move Gay as the lone piece.
