Rudy Gay Traded to Toronto

In a not surprising trade, Rudy Gay has been shipped to Toronto for Ed Davis and Jose Calderon. What the fuck is wrong with Grizzlies management.

They plan to immediately trade Calderon for a small forward and the Pistons are very interested in the Spanish point guard, while also having Tayshaun Prince and Corey Magette on their roster. Though both contracts are expiring this summer, Gay only makes about five million more than Magette and Prince so this is a head scratcher. But Memphis has new management and must want to cut costs even though they have one of the best front courts in the NBA.

I feel bad for Gay; in fact I feel bad for anyone who gets traded to Toronto because they just can't seem to get it together up there. Gay seems very similar to Toronto's Demar Derozan, who they just signed to a lucrative extension. They also recently locked up Landry Fields and Gay is certainly going to take away minutes from both of them.

Poor Rudy Gay

As far as I'm concerned this trade doesn't significantly help either team and might even hurt the Grizz. Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol still make Memphis competitive in the first couple rounds of the playoffs, but they need a star wing who can knock down clutch shots and lead them effectively, two qualities (I guess) Rudy Gay lacked.
Nonetheless, the biggest loser in this trade is obviously Rudy Gay; going from a perennial playoff team with championship aspirations to Toronto.

Toronto.
